Where To Eat After Acupuncture Appointments

Chinatown Favorites part 1

I will be creating different lists of my favorite Chinatown places for those who come to visit me in-person. Thanks for supporting my business and Chinatown.

Acupuncture Aftercare

Some basic acupuncture aftercare tips can be found here. Generally speaking, take it easy, no drinking alcohol or working out. Skip sky diving, concerts and parties immediately after. However, going for dinner is great after acupuncture activity -just refrain from anything spicy, too greasy or heavy foods. Now let’s get some dinner!

My Favorite Chinatown Restaurants

Since many of you ask me where to eat… here is a short list of my absolute favorites:

Golden Unicorn (Chinese) 18 East Broadway

Must haves: shrimp, rice roll noodle, steamed bean curd skin rolls, black pepper beef short ribs

Note: I’ve only ever eaten dim sum here, dim sum has limited hours so check first, East Broadway is not the same as Broadway - use google maps if you’re not sure.

Nyonya (Malaysian) 199 Grand Street

Must haves: roti canai appetizer, hokkein char mee, Malaysian iced coffee (DO NOT drink after acupuncture)

Note: only one vegetarian option on the menu

Ping’s Seafood (Chinese, Seafood) 22 Mott St

Must haves: peking pork ribs, jumbo prawns in creamy walnut sauce, stir-fry sticky rice

Note: great for larger groups

Shanghai Cafe (Soup Dumplings, Chinese) 100 Mott St

Must haves: soup dumplings, pan-fried noodles

Note: order the soup dumplings as soon as you’re seated so they come out faster, don’t be confused by the many Shanghai restaurants on the block -this is THE ONE.

Sun Sai Gai (Chinese) 220 Canal St

Must haves: crispy pig over rice, duck with noodle soup, salted pork with century egg congee + you tiao

Note: this is a small place and is great for quick meals and/or take out

Thai Son (Vietnamese) 89 Baxter St

Must haves: fried spring rolls, anything + fried rice

Note: I am not well versed in Vietnamese food but I have enjoyed everything I’ve ever eaten here for the last 15 years

Vegetarian Dim Sum House (Vegetarian, Chinese) 24 Pell St

Must haves: Black mushrooms + bean curd, mini sticky rice in lotus leaves, house special corn congee

Note: I’m not vegetarian
