January 15 A Day of Healing for Asian Pacific Islander Femmes + Women

Last year on January 15th, Michelle Go was fatally attacked while waiting for the train in Times Square in a senseless and hateful assault. It was an event that traumatized us all. This year, Asian Pacific Islander women and femmes will be gathering together to mourn , learn and heal from such a terrible tragedy. Angry Asian Womxn will be hosting a virtual day of healing for Asian pacific island Women and femmes. The event will include: self defense class, a workshop on NYC subway safety, acupressure workshop, guided meditation, and being amongst community on the anniversary of such a tragic and horrific day. Also included in the ticket: for API women and femmes who need a self defense kit, and previously never received one, you can get one mailed to you for only $5 extra.

This day of remembrance is purely a community event for and by Asian Pacific Islander women and femmes. We ask that all attendees are Asian Pacific Islander women and femmes so we can foster a safe space free of judgement, racism, and misogyny during such a sensitive time. We want to build community amongst our fellow Angry Asian Womxn. Thank you for your understanding.

Angry Asian Womxn @angryasianwomxn is a mutual aid group that gives away free self defense kits and hosts healing events for NYC Asian Pacific Islander Womxn and femmes.

Nina So of Dragon Combat Club @dragoncombatclub will be providing self defense instruction. Be prepared by wearing comfortable clothing, and setting up your device where you can move. Also bring your kubotan or tactical pen to practice with. Dragon Combat Club is an API led self defense group that offers free weekly self defense classes.

The subway workshop will be conducted by Sarinya Srisakul and Casey Chan, two FDNY API women firefighters who have many years of experience working on live subway tracks.

Emily Grace Acupuncture @emilygraceacupuncture will be conducting the acupressure workshop and guided meditation. Dr. Emily (she/her) is a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine. Her practice is based in Manhattan's Chinatown. She specializes in menstrual and reproductive health. Her goal is to share the benefits of Chinese Medicine with marginalized communities. 

Proceeds go to Angry Asian Womxn and a portion will also go to the Junior League of the City of New York, the nonprofit where Michelle Go volunteered. The Junior League of the City of New York, Inc., is an organization of women whose Mission is to advance women’s leadership for meaningful community impact through volunteer action, collaboration, and training.
