Tiger Balm Explained
Tiger Balm has always been a staple in the medicine cabinet of my home growing up. We used it for any aches and pains but also for itchy mosquito bites, headaches, cold and flu that came with cough and phlegm. Now with different formulations of Tiger Balm here is a little break down of them and when to use them. Please note that if you have an injury or medical condition, make sure you’re assessed by a doctor! Also be sure to talk to your doctor before using any products you’re not familiar with. Tiger Balm is meant for external use only.
Tiger Balm (White) Regular Strength
Tiger Balm white contains menthol, camphor and mint which have cooling and dispersing qualities. It also includes cajuput and clove which are both anti-inflammatory and analgesic. This makes it great for minor aches and pains, acute sprains and inflammation. I recommend this for the first day of an ankle sprain, headaches, itchy insect bites, sinus congestion, wind heat with phlegm and cough.
Tiger Balm (Red) Extra Strength
Also includes the same ingredients as tiger balm white with the addition of cassia. Cassia is a type of cinnamon that has a warming and dispersing quality. This makes Tiger Balm red better for joint pains, more chronic type injury or pain, arthritic pains. Consider using it for aches and pains that get worse with cold and damp conditions. It is also great period cramps.
Tiger Balm Ultra Strength
This formula includes a slightly higher content of menthol and camphor. It also includes cajuput, mint, cassia and clove similar to Tiger Balm Red. This formulation gives and icy - hot quality. It gives a stronger effect of dispersing, analgesia and anti-inflammation compared to the other formulations.
